10 Spring Themed Active Learning Journal Pages

I’m back with some new spring themed ALJ pages. The more of these pages I make, the more I realize how many artistic skills I lack! Good things the kids don’t care at all.

If you plan on starting an ALJ with your child, I suggest always having this small supply list on hand. I keep my stash in a large pencil box where I can access it quickly.

*Crayons, Makers, Pencils

*Glue Sticks

*Scissors

*Do a Dot Markers

*Dot Stickers

*Alphabet and Number Stickers or Stamps

*Dice

*Small counters like unifix cubes or mini erasers

*Wiki Sticks or Yarn

Today’s group of ALJ will only use markers and dot stickers!

This group of pages happens to be for a new friend, I, who I’ve added into my care schedule. I spend a few hours with her during the month so she can get a little one on one attention! It was fun to break out of the format I usually make for E.

In this directional page we are practicing the motions needed to form the letter I along with practicing tracking left to right and top to bottom. These pre-writing skills are crucial to master before asking a child to begin reading.

I love using carrots for spring time. In this page we’re adding green stickers to each top. Stickers are highly motivating for I. You could easily make this a counting and number recognition page by simply writing a number on the carrot and have your child draw the correct number of tops.

For the Grow a Garden page, I is again practicing top to bottom lines. The dotted line is completely optional depending on your child’s needs. You could also draw lines and have your child make the flower portion. This would also be cute using flower stickers.

I have seen so many versions of this page! You could make this for names, sight words, or numbers. For I we’re working on matching and naming shapes. Like I said earlier, she is very motivated by stickers!

For the Add the Dots page, we will be coloring in the black dots. You could easily leave the bugs empty for your child to practice drawing circles. You could also turn it into a game by rolling a dice and then adding dots to the lady bugs. Another option would be to draw bigger bugs and leave on side blank for your child to add the same number to the other side. So many options!

Add the Bows is a color matching sticker activity as well. You could easily leave the string empty for you child to add bows. This would be another fun dice game, roll the dice and add the correct number of bows. You could also cut out bows from paper.

Add the Legs is one more straight line drawing practice. I’ve also used caterpillars for name recognition. Add the letters of your child’s name into each circle. Using alphabet stickers to build her name.

Put the Bee in the Hive is a fun pre-writing activity to practice drawing arches. Simply have your child trace the hive or have her make her own if capable.

This is another one of those spring activities you see all over but is too fun to pass up! Under the grass, which is taped into the journal, are flowers that I will find once she mows down the grass with her scissors. I love a good cutting skills page!

If you like these ideas, make sure you check out my other ALJ pages, just click the tags under this post. Most pages I have created in the past can be made for any season or theme.
