Here at The Teaching Nanny we’re all about encouraging Nannies to perform at their absolute best. One of the ways of becoming a rock star nanny is knowing all the fun kid friendly places in your city! Since nannies hold the pulse on their neighborhoods, we thought it would be fun to highlight those activities in a few major cities this summer! Coming up we have Indianapolis, Chicago, and Austin! If you live in a major metro area in the US and would like to be featured, please fill out this form here, we’d love to hear from you!

Today we’re highlighting Boston through our friend Brooke. Make sure to give her a follow on Instagram @x.bash.x
1-Tell us a little bit about you and your nanny family. How old are your charges?
My nanny family and I have been working together as a team caring for their little 3 year old girl for 3.5 years now. We flow so well together, this is the best position I have ever been in in my 6 years of nannying.
2- What are some of your favorite parks to visit? What makes them special?
Some of our favorite parks to visit are located in Brookline. The design of these parks are beyond compare. Emerson Garden is special because it has a big wooden tree house for us to hang out in and a cool row boat in the middle of a giant sand box! There is also a small splash pad for us to rinse off all the sand play and cool down on hot days. The grass is greenest grass I have ever seen and there is a smooth path that encircles the park for us to zoom on our scooters.
Another favorite location of ours is located in Watertown called Beaver Brook Reservoir.
This is a magical place where we spend hours playing in the brook with our sand toys, visiting our duck friends, and watching the dogs enjoy a quick swim. There is a beautiful bridge on the path that leads to a big playground with two structures for kids of all ages and a giant splash pad. There are even bathrooms (pretty rare thing to find) and very clean if I may add.

3-Share some of the kid friendly restaurants, cafés, ice cream stores, etc. that you frequent.
We rarely go out to eat together but in MA there is an ice cream shop called JP Licks that we enjoy on special occasions. They have a statue of a cow at every location. Always fun to say hello to the cow 🙂

4-Share some of the places to explore nature in your area.
Beaver Brook Reservoir in Watertown and Houghton’s Pond Recreation Area in Milton are great locations for a nature scavenger hunt or nature walk. Houghton’s has various hiking paths and allows swimming in the pond as well!
Ward’s Berry Farm in Sharon is amazing to teach kids where our fruits and veggies come from. We’ve picked sunflowers, blueberries, and tomatoes here! There are picnic tables to enjoy lunch outside and a barn where you can visit farm animals.

5-Share any kid friendly places like museums, libraries, bookstores, fun hidden gems that no one knows!
Boston Children’s Museum is a must! There is a beautiful playground and mini splash pad right next to it with a view of the city and Seaport.
Cambridge Public Library on Broadway will always have our heart. Their story times were my favorite hands down. It is huge, there is parking, and they have a big children’s floor with a variety of books.
Boston Central Public Library is perfect if you’re in the city and want to have a mini photoshoot in the McKim Courtyard or enjoy a quick story time in the Children’s Room. This BPL location is an architectural beauty!

6-Plan a day for a nanny who is visiting your city with nanny kids.
A day for a nanny visiting with her kids would definitely have to begin after a cup of coffee. I recommend Flour Bakery & Cafe, Thinking Cup, or Café Nero (I’m drooling). Now that nanny is caffeinated, I’d recommend visiting the New England Aquarium which is right on the wharf. The aquarium isn’t too big and can be done in 1.5-2 hours or so. Even if you don’t go inside, you can watch the seals swim in a tank by the entrance, walk along the wharf, watch airplanes depart into the sky, and sightsee boats of all sizes. Next, grab a quick bite to eat in Quincy Market which is a walking distance from the aquarium. Along the way you will be surprised to see the Greenway Carousel! Why not take a spin before devouring a yummy lobster roll or lobster mac n cheese from Quincy market? After lunch would be the perfect time to visit the Boston Children’s Museum (don’t worry there is a Starbucks across the street for your afternoon pick me up) and the newly renovated Hood Bottle landmark where you and your kiddos can enjoy an ice cream. If they are uninterested in the museum, I am sure they’d love the playground right next to it. There is a giant pirate ship where their imagination can run wild. After the museum head to the Boston Commons and take a relaxing stroll through the park or a ride on the swan boats! This is the oldest park in the united states with a lot of history and the most instagram-worthy spots.

Thank you so much for sharing with us, Brooke. Be sure to give her a follow @x.bash.x and let her know The Teaching Nanny sent you!
