I love sensory bins, the simpler the better! Pom poms and this cute ice cream set from Ikea is the quickest little sensory bin set up ever! Pom poms are one of my favorite fillers to have on hand. They are easy to store, don’t make a lot of mess, they come in tons of colors and sizes, and they can be used in so many activities!

Speaking of using poms poms, this counting page is perfect for them! Set up a bin or basket with 15 poms poms and a fine motor tool to encourage counting and fine motor skills in your toddler.

My oldest charge (She will be four in Sept.) is beginning to understand counting, one to one correspondence, and number sense. I made these ice cream themed counting cards for 1-10. In this picture, we’re using beads for counters but you could use mini poms for this as well! If you have young toddlers, use something that you’re comfortable with.

We love roll and cover dice games, they are great for working on number sense and subitizing, which is looking at a group of something and knowing the number without counting. Your child will roll the dice and add “sprinkles” to her ice cream sundae or cone. You could race each other to six or start with a full set of sprinkles and remove them with each roll!

This activity includes fine motor, counting, and one to one correspondence all at once! Have your child pull a number card from a bag, count the items and then add that many poms to the 10 frame! If you don’t have a physical ten frame, you could use an ice cube tray or muffin tray!
