Using the O Antiphons for Advent

In my other life as a Director of Next Generation Ministries, I love creating activities for my families to use to teach the faith at home. Since arguably the best season of the church year is here, Advent, I thought I’d share my latest activity pack.

This pack is an all in one printable full of activities for the entire Advent season using the O Antiphons.

What are the O Antiphons you ask?

The O Antiphons are seven prayers the medieval church used during the week leading up to Christmas Eve. They have been sung and chanted going back 1300 years. These prayers have been turned into the popular Advent hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” Each prayer focuses on a different name of the Messiah drawn from the Old Testament. The O Antiphons paint a rich picture of the long awaited Savior born for each one of us.

Each O Antiphon includes an all in one devotional experience with:

  • Family or classroom devotionals for each day
  • Scripture to read and memorize
  • Prayers
  • Themed food ideas
  • Activities
  • Ornament to display on a small tree or near your family’s Advent wreath

What will I need to use this pack?

  • An advent wreath (I love this one)
  • This pack (downloaded available at the end of this post

And that’s it!!
