5+ Baby Play Ideas Using Household Items

My nanny family is thrilled to have an adorable 8-month-old girl who is rapidly reaching new milestones. She is already sitting unassisted, showing great determination as she attempts to crawl, and her curiosity leads her to explore her older siblings’ toys. In fact, the 6 and 4-year-olds have become quite the little teachers, educating me about the importance of identifying choking hazards!

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve had a baby to entertain, so I had to raid my nanny stash (yes, I have one!) for some cool stuff to throw into a little sensory bin. By the way, these are hands down the best containers for babies, in my humble opinion! You can totally find all these things lying around your house or grab ’em on the cheap from the dollar store.

You’ll need:

Sure thing! So, check this out: we’ve got this super cool froggy loofah with velcro rollers! You know those velcro rollers we all have lying around in our bathrooms? Well, they’re not just for hair, my friend. They can actually be used for some awesome fine motor skills practice. And hey, why not amp it up by sliding a colorful scarf through each roller for a beginner-level threading activity? How cool is that?

Speaking of scarves, have you ever tried shoving a scarf into one of those O-balls that babies go crazy for? It’s a fun way to keep them entertained!

Hey, check this out! You can totally stuff scarves into a shape sorter and use it as a makeshift tissue box. And guess what? If you’re feeling crafty, grab an old tissue box and turn it into a cool DIY recyclable toy!

Oh, and don’t forget, you can also toss in some velcro rollers for an extra twist on the shape sorter fun!

Got a bunch of baby links from your baby shower and don’t know what to do with them? No worries, just pop them into an O-Ball. Let your little one practice their grip or stick it on the wall for some vertical fun. Easy peasy!

Oh, has your little one found their way to your kitchen cabinets? Well, let me tell you, there’s nothing easier than playing with containers and lids! I’ve got this awesome set with nesting lids that your baby is gonna love. It’s perfect for stacking and even hiding some small toys inside for an exciting discovery. Plus, it helps develop their pincer grasp by opening and closing those lids. So much fun!

Throw in a ball pit ball to amp up the fun!

Get ready to see your everyday stuff in a whole new light with these super easy ideas! You won’t believe what you can do with your household items!
