FREE Valentine’s Day Cutting and Counting Printable

I’m probably a little late to the activity game for February, who says you have to keep the hearts and love to only the first two weeks of the month?! February is too short for rules, right?

The Valentine themed printable for you is full of fine motor skills for your older toddler. There are two simple cutting pages, a hole punch page, and three sets of 5 frames!

Let’s jump into a preview, shall we?

Hole Punching Practice

E, my oldest charge, has really gotten into hole punching. This page will be great for her to practice! You could print this off onto cardstock to turn into a lacing activity if you want an extension activity. I will also print off another copy to use for fine motor practice with J. He will fill the holes with pom poms or other counters.

Cut the hearts

Along with hole punching, we have been working on scissor skills. I’ll probably print a few copies of this page and let E cut along the lines. You can cut the page along the center lines to make it easier for your child!

Cutting Strips

These traditional Montessori cutting strips are one of our favorites. I cut each group along the small white lines to place into a basket for E. She cuts the along the dotted line. The shorter lines are perfect for new scissor users!

Five Frame

Are you familiar with five and ten frames? They are a wonderful way to practice one to one correspondence along with a concrete visual representation of a number. It builds the conceptual understanding of numbers as well!

This first set of Five Frames requires a little adult cutting, sorry! Once you cut all the pieces apart, you won’t need any more supplies.

You can present this in a few ways:

Show your child a number and have them place a heart in the frame.

Place the numbers in order in the frame.

Matching red and pink numbers and hearts.

There are so many options with this page!

Five Frame with Hearts

The second set of five frames will be perfect for a child just learning to match a set of items to a number. This set has the correct number of hearts already in the frame. Have your child use small hearts or counters to cover and cut the hearts. Because the visual is already there, this set makes for a complete independent activity.

Five Frame without Hearts

The last five frame set is the same as the one above without the hearts. Each frame is empty just waiting for your child to fill! Once your child has mastered the first set, this set is a wonderful challenge.
