What’s On Our Shelf: Farm Theme

Something about spring makes me think about baby animals being born on the farm. I pulled together some easy farm themed activities for our early spring shelf!

As always, these will use minimal supplies and are easily adaptable for all ages!

Fine Motor

I love this easy rescue board I created with rubberbands and cardboard. We’ve used it for many themes (including a few you can find Here) This works well for younger toddlers who are just beginning to use the pull and grab action.

For older toddlers and preschoolers, try wrapping rubberbands around some mini animals! This rescue activity has two goals, wrapping and unwrapping.

We all have some Easter eggs lying around, right? Add them to some mini animals. You could have your child color match or just fill the eggs!

Song Basket

We love to sing and dance around here. I created these song basket pages last year (available here) for our bug unit. The older my nanny kids get, the more they love setting up these baskets on their own.

Puzzles Magnets Games

Sensory Play

This muddy oobleck was by far the hit of the theme!

To make muddy oobleck you’ll need:

  • 1.5 part cornstarch
  • 1 part coca powder
  • 1 part water
  • Mix together, slowly adding water to get a slimey oobleck consistency.

Give your children some farm animals and scrub brushes next to a container of clean water!
